Fireworks in the Gulf

Fireworks over a Canal in Venice, taken by Malcolm, Summer 2006

There is so much bad news about the Gulf of Mexic0, but nonetheless we are off to stay on the Gulf for July 4th.  We will sit by a pool, BBQ steaks, read, drink wine and on the 4th we will bring our chairs to the beach at sunset and wait for the fireworks. In the dark we won’t be able to see the globs of oil on our shoes, and the beautiful colors in the sky will lift our hearts, if only briefly, from the devastation of our shores.

Going to the gulf coast for July 4th is a recent tradition for us, not associated with our sons. But where we stay is where we always stayed with our boys. They grew up learning to swim in the pool every summer. It is good to have old memories; it is good to make new ones. And fireworks always make me smile.  Happy 4th to all!
