Why is it we expect life to be good? Statistically speaking this planet should not even have life on it; the fact that we exist defies the laws of probability. But here we are. And we aren’t just here, we are aware that we are here. We don’t just live and die, we think, choose, create, love. Life is difficult, full of sorrow and struggle. But maybe that is the norm. What is amazing is that there is so much more. Each day it is possible to be surprised by joy … apologies to C.S. Lewis for borrowing his book title. So perhaps we should not look at suffering as evidence that God doesn’t exist, but look at joy as evidence that God does.
